Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 May 2026

This policy explains what data Flight Compensation Checker collects, why, and what your rights are. We keep it short because we genuinely collect very little.

Who we are

Flight Compensation Checker is operated independently. For data-protection purposes, we are the data controller. Contact: [email protected].

Data we do NOT collect

Your flight details — airports, airline, date, issue type, delay duration — are processed entirely in your browser. They are never sent to our servers, never stored in a database, and are discarded the moment you close or refresh the page. We have no record of what flights you checked.

Data we do collect

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

Only with your consent. If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use the site (pages visited, how long the checker takes, which step people drop off at, which partner services get clicks). GA4 collects your IP address (anonymised by Google before storage), browser type, device type, and approximate location (country/city level).

We do not send any flight-search data to Google. The events we fire are: verdict_shown (eligible true/false, which regulations applied, estimated amount) and partner_click (which specialist service you clicked). These help us improve the tool and demonstrate its value to potential partners.

You can decline analytics at any time by clicking "Decline" in the cookie banner, or by clearing your cookie_consent entry from your browser's localStorage (DevTools → Application → Local Storage).

Hosting and server logs (Cloudflare)

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare automatically processes limited technical data to deliver the site and protect it from attacks — including your IP address, the pages requested, timestamps, and basic device/browser information — in short-lived security and delivery logs. This happens for every visitor regardless of cookie choices, and we do not use it to identify you or build a profile.

Theme preference

We store your light/dark theme preference in localStorage under the key theme. This never leaves your device.

Referral / affiliate link clicks

We don't currently use affiliate or referral links. If we add them in future — for example, an optional link to a third-party claim specialist if an airline rejects your claim — clicking one would take you to that company's website, which would set its own cookies and collect its own data under its own privacy policy. Any referral tracking would pass only a referral identifier; we would not share your personal data without your explicit consent.

Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

Analytics: Consent (Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw consent at any time by declining cookies; withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

Hosting and security logs (Cloudflare): Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — operating the site securely and reliably.

Theme preference (localStorage): No personal data processed; this is purely functional client-side storage.

Data retention

Google automatically deletes the GA4 data we send according to our property's settings: event data after 2 months and user-level data after 14 months. This is separate from the _ga cookie stored in your browser, which has a default lifespan of up to 2 years (some browsers shorten this to around 13 months) and which you can delete at any time. We do not retain any other personal data.

International transfers

Google (Analytics) and Cloudflare (hosting) are US-headquartered and may process data outside the UK/EEA. Where they do, transfers are covered by their participation in the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses, which provide an approved safeguard for the data.

Your rights

Under GDPR and UK GDPR you have the right to: access your data; request erasure; withdraw consent; lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority (ICO in the UK; your national DPA in the EU). To exercise these rights, email [email protected].

Because we hold no flight-search data and only anonymised analytics, most access and erasure requests can be fulfilled by simply revoking cookie consent (which stops all future collection) and requesting deletion of the GA4 data tied to your client ID (which we can action via the GA4 data-deletion tool).
